About Pilates

Pilates began in New York City in 1925 with Joseph Pilates. He called his developed form of movement “Contrology,” believing you could control your muscles with your mind. He was right. Utilizing hundreds of different exercises, the correct breathing method, correct form, and focus, Pilates exercises can change the tone, flexibility, and movement of your body.

Pilates reaches those (intrinsic) muscles deep within our bodies...our core, where strength is needed most. It works from the inside out, and it does this by using several pieces of Pilates equipment such as the Reformer, Cadillac, Chair, different forms of Barrels, stability balls, floor exercises, and more. There seems to be an endless combination of exercises for everyone. Because everybody’s body is different, their workout plan should be different too. An Embodyment workout is “tailor made” to you.

Pilates has always emphasized quality over quantity, and Pilates exercises do not include a lot of repetitions for each move. Instead, by doing each exercise fully, with precision, your body will yield great results in a shorter time.
